That day, I was in bed crying like a baby.

I could not stop the tears from flowing! Every song, every beat, every moment pulled me into a wave of emotions I did not expect.

I was sobbing uncontrollably over a decadent slice of chocolate cake I had just been eating.

If you have seen the movie “A Star is Born”, you probably know what I mean. I finally got to watch it last night and WOW… powerful performances and story by both Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.

What stood out for me were the important lessons in the movie for entrepreneurs and I thought I would share them here with you today.

Jack’s (Bradley Cooper) brother Bobby says to Ally near the end of the film:

“Jack talked about how music is essentially 12 notes between any octave. Twelve notes, and the octave repeats. It’s the same story, told over and over, forever. All any artist can offer the world is how they see those 12 notes. That’s it. Hmm. He loved how you see them.”

In any industry, entrepreneurs have access to the same marketing and advertising strategies. They also have access to the same 12 dominant (64 counting subs) archetypes. They do not change.

They are used over and over again but every entrepreneur has the opportunity to offer the world how they see these strategies and archetypes.

When entrepreneurs copy a template or follow a mold, they lose that mark of distinction that shows others how they see the world. They lose the authentic nature of how they see the world.

Jack also gave Ally the most powerful advice. He said, “Look, talent comes everywhere, but having something to say and a way to say it so that people listen to it, that’s a whole other bag.”

Discovering your I.T Factor and understanding your most commercially viable archetypes and brand identity, helps you find a distinct way to say the important things you need to say to the world. There are many brilliant experts and entrepreneurs.

Talent is abundant but as he rightly said “having something to say and way to say it, that is a whole other bag.”

You are talented. You know it and now you need to refine how you show up in the market so that you are even more distinct from the other talents in your market. Building your brand more strategically and with greater meaning and intention is key to ensuring that a star is born. One that rises above the crowd and offers a new way between the 12 notes.
