For service-based experts and entrepreneurs, there is no need to build your business in a way that leaves you overworked, stretched or even underpaid.

Today, I’m sharing with you three actionable ways that you can scale your brand by working smarter not harder.

While I was living in Italy, one of my clients was an award-winning producer of Italian wines. I was fascinated by his business model because it was absolutely genius. He was producing at the time seven different wine varieties and from three different regions in Italy including a very fine DOCG Prosecco from Valdobbiadene (home of the best prosecco).

The most fascinating part of it all was that he didn’t own any of the vineyards. He was using an almost similar model to brands like Uber and Airbnb. If he had to own every single vineyard where he was producing grapes for the wines that would require a massive investment in acquiring property and staff.

He was able to scale his production by working smarter not harder and creating contracts with vineyard owners who supplied him with the grape varietals for his wines. All his company needed to do was produce the wines, bottle, and distribute without having the responsibility that comes with maintaining the vineyards.

Here are three ways to scale your business by working smarter not harder:

#1 – Focus on your highest value clients

If you are selling an online course and you sell the course for $197, this means that you will need at least 50 clients to create $10,000 in sales. Now imagine to convert 50 clients, you would need to have 500 leads converting at 10% or 1000 leads with a 5% conversion rate to achieve that goal.

When you are just starting out or even if you have been online for a while but don’t have a big following, it takes a lot of effort to make this happen. Now imagine if you decided to focus on higher-end clients and offer your service at even $1000. You would only need 10 clients to achieve the sales goal.

One of my clients last week, with a small mailing list was able to have her highest sales month ever, generating $15,000 from 3 new clients with the new package we developed together.

This is why it makes sense to focus on selling a more high-value product/service to a higher-end client especially if you have a small email list and very little followers.

#2 – Automate and Document

At some point in my business, I realized that I was saying the same thing over and over in sessions with my clients. I also realized that I was repeating the same lessons sometimes four times in one day. This when I realized that it was time to start documenting the fundamentals of my work that every client would need to learn.

So instead of saying the same things or typing the same emails over and over again, I create videos, automated emails, and handouts that allowed me to free up time during and after sessions with my clients so that I can both serve them better and have more time.

You may have so many repetitive tasks in your business that could be automated. Document, record videos, and use email automation to work smarter not harder. That way you can grow your business by freeing up your time from repetitive tasks.

#3  Hire Team Fast and Slow

When I first started my company 10 years ago, I was Jane of all trades. Everything was my baby and I needed to be intimately involved in the whole process. That meant that I was doing A LOT myself and working round the clock. But I soon realized that A tired Jane is an uninspired Jane. If you are constantly tired trying to do it all, you won’t be able to bring your highest creativity to the table.

Today, I have an amazing team, everyone with their own unique talents that helps me create space for being creative, focused on the strategy rather than every tactical detail.

Hire as fast as you can your weakness. It will help you grow faster, increase your capacity, and create space for expansion in your business. If you can’t hire, outsource. There are so many creative ways that you can work with others, even partners to scale your business and work smarter not harder.
